THE  CITY OF MILTON

In case you didn’t know, the new City of Milton actually covers Alpharetta mostly west of the Great Divide, aka GA 400 – approximately 23,000 acres all told, with about 20,000 residents calling it home!   Boundaries include Cherokee county to the North and West (an unincorporated parcel of land), down to the City of Roswell to the Southwest (just west of Arnold Mill), down to Alpharetta’s City limits on the southern border, and Mayfield Road to Cogburn Road then over to Windward Parkway.

The City was officially incorporated on July 18th, 2006 as part of an election, with an impressive 85% of the voters approving the citizens’ referendum which set everything in motion.  Milton started its new government on November 14th that same year.   City offices are now housed at the Deerfield Professional Centre, on Deerfield Parkway, with Mayor Joe Lockwood guiding Milton’s development.

Did you know that Alpharetta used to be in the old Milton County “back in the day” (actually from 1857-1931).  Milton County had over 93,000 acres at that time, with Alpharetta being the County seat.  Reflecting its historical roots, the new city of Milton was born 75 years later.

The City’s Character

As you drive through this area, you’ll appreciate its beauty which includes not only some great residential developments with superb amenities for family living, but also encompasses many beautiful horse farms bordered by stained wood fences as well as rural developments and family farms.  Almost 80% of Milton’s total land area is devoted to residential use and public amenity space.    The remainder is devoted to smaller commercial areas offering everything from charming and unique restaurants, to nostalgic antique stores and fun mixed-use retail areas.

Rolling countryside is flanked by everything from modest, affordable homes to luxurious estates with substantial stone fences and arrival statement residences!  No matter where you go, you’ll need a car to enjoy the meandering country roads, stands of beautiful hardwood trees shading rolling pastures, and quaint neighborhood shopping centers which reflect the charm of this area.   And yes, horse riding is still very popular in this part of town!

Recently Milton was one of 3400 cities in the US to receive the distinction of being a Tree City USA” – awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation and the USDA Forest Service.   So you know we have lots of beautiful vegetation and trees to appreciate here.

Schools

Milton is home to some great public schools.   Four (4) Elementary Schools include Birmingham Falls  Cogburn Woods, Crabapple Crossing and Summit Hill.   Two (2) Middle Schools include Hopewell and Northwestern, and the area is served by the new Milton High School – an impressive building which could easily be mistaken for a Southern Plantation!   There are also private school options, including the well regarded Kings Ridge Christian School (K-12).

Housing

If you are seeking a private, exclusive home located in a small enclave, you will find many beautiful developments offering the privacy and outstanding features which come with a prime home investment.  But there are also small, medium and larger residential developments to suit many price ranges and buyer needs.  The largest development in the area is Crooked Creek, with its homes starting in the low $400’s all the way to $800k, set amidst 500 acres of beautiful land.  Others, including Crabapple Crossroads offer charming homes in a mixed-use neighborhood development.

For those who like the option of not being in a subdivision, there are also homes available on unrestricted pieces of land, allowing you the independent lifestyle you prefer.

Most of Milton is not on a country sewer, but rather on private septic systems.  And the benefit is that approx. 1 acre of land is a requirement in this area for a septic system – less density means greater beauty for all concerned!

All-in-all, Milton represents a beautiful slice of countryside in the growing North Fulton area - and a great place to call home!
